Week at a Glance – May 11 – 15

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible women in our school community who nurture, guide, support, and inspire our students each day. We celebrate mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, aunts, guardians, caregivers, and all those who take on loving and supportive roles in the lives of children. Thank you for the kindness, strength, encouragement, and care you share so generously. We hope you feel appreciated and celebrated this Mother’s Day weekend

Reminders:

District Track Meet

  • The district track meet is happening at North Delta this year on Thursday May 14th
  • The permission forms were handed out today and they need to be handed back to teachers by Tuesday the latest
  • We will walk from the school, leaving at 8:30 am (about 70 students)
  • Student names were announced over the PA today so that students are aware who qualified for the District Meet
  • Parents are encouraged to attend again!

Locked Front Doors

  • Starting May 19th our front doors will be locked all day
  • Right now it is open from 11:30-1:10 and parents are able to drop off lunches to their child
  • Once we start the lunch carts on May 19th, parents will have to drop off their lunches into the carts before 12:00. Students will no longer be coming down to the office to meet parents for their lunches
  • If you want to see your child at lunch, please come at 11:50 and sign them out to take home for lunch
  • Any lunches that are dropped off after 12:15 will be given to the child at 12:50.

Lunch Lady

  • We are now on week 2 of our lunch lady program
  • We have had great feedback so far!
  • Some reminders of some systems we need to put in place
    • If a student is away, please write their name on the lunch and put it in the medical room fridge
    • If they have a sibling at the school, we will send it home with them and if not then they will receive the lunch the next day to take home
    • If a student says they do not like the lunch option, they come down to the office with for an option of snacks (usually cheese, milk, fruit) and then they need to take their lunch home so their parents can see it or pass it on to another family member once they get home

May Sharing Assembly

  • Our May Sharing assembly will be happening on May 22 at 11:00 am in the gym.
  • Parents are invited to attend!

Freezie Sales

  • Freezie Sales will continue every Tuesday for $2 until June
  • The school is fundraising for outdoor learning equipment and we are also fundraising for a new school mural to be painted at the front of the school

Parking Lot Applications

 District Communication

  • We are excited to share that the City of Delta is celebrating local youth this spring with Youth Week and the highly anticipated Youthapalooza!
  • From May 1–7, Youth Week will feature a variety of free, youth-focused events at Delta recreation centres. These activities are designed for youth aged 10–18 and celebrate the important contributions young people make to our community. In addition to the main week, there will also be lead-up activities offering something for a wide range of interests.
  • The celebrations wrap up with Youthapalooza on May 8, a fun-filled event you won’t want to miss!

The Delta School District is offering a free, enriching program for families seeking to support their child(ren) in strengthening Literacy and Numeracy foundational skills. These programs are available for students entering Grades 1–7. Students may only register for one session.
